Revealed in #estimates - the Dept of Environment has not modelled the economic impacts of Morrison Government’s Climate Solutions Policy. The Treasury Secretary couldn’t say if any part of Treasury has. @MathiasCormann couldn’t identify any such modelling. #chaos #dysfunction
In fact, @MathiasCormann independenly & off his own bat pointed me to modelling done by Brian Fisher at BAEconomics. So I asked him what Fisher said about the economic impact of the Morrison Government’s Climate Solutions Package. He refused to answer. Helpfully, I can:
Fisher says that the Australian carbon price in 2030 under the Morrison Government’s policy, including their use of Kyoto carryover credits, is $92/tonne.
Fisher says that the GDP impact of the Morrison Government’s Climate Solutions Package by 2030 is $90bn.
Fisher says the impact of job losses of the Morrison Government’s Climate Solutions Package by 2030 is 75,000 jobs.
For the record, Labor utterly rejects Fisher’s analysis as seriously flawed, but Morrison Govt insists it is accurate:
So, that’s $90bn in GDP impact; 75,000 jobs; a carbon price of $92/tonne, brought to you by the Libs & Nats.

No one tell @AngusTaylorMP or Craig Kelly 🧨
So Macro Group in Treasury said that it would be Fiscal Group’s job to model the economic impact of the Government’s Climate Solutions Policy.
Now Fiscal Group says it would be up to Macro Group to ask them to do the modelling, and they didn’t. #estimates
#chaos #dysfunction
The Morrison Government’s Climate Solutions Policy projects 200MT of C02 abatement by 2030. Yet the Government has not modelled the economic impact on jobs, wages, food prices or electricity prices.
The Morrison Government regularly claims you can’t reduce emissions without an impact on the economy - yet they lack the basic curiousity to know what the economic impact of their own Government’s economic policies are.
The next time you hear @AngusTaylorMP making hysterical claims about the economic impact of Labor’s climate policies, ask him what modelling he is relying on, if his Government has modelled their own climate policies, & what the impact is.

He won’t have an answer. What a farce.
