I did some research 5 years ago into the future of voice comms. We took "edge case" communities — gamers, disabled, hackers, very old and young — as offering clues to the future. Some here bring "edge experiences" — like being a cult survivor (me) or adoptees like @HangukIbiangi.
What is interesting about "edge communities" is that we simultaneously bring unique insight into the general condition, but at the same time our experience cannot be generalised by its unique nature. A paradox: the warped path we have taken gives us perspective, but still warped.
We are all bonkers in our own special and endearing way (in my experience at least). It is only by listening to the viewpoint of others and triangulating it with your own that you can begin to map out the ways in which your perspective is "above the plane" versus "warped vision".
