My daughter has been coming home from school RAVENOUS for the past couple of weeks so I finally asked her if she didn't like the lunches I was packing for her. She looked very guilty and then told me she'd been giving half of her lunch to this other girl ...

I went into instant
'mom-mode' because my first thought was that this other girl was taking her lunch and then she told me to slow my roll (she gets me) and said the other girl was a friend who had been going without lunch.

Then I got all teary.

Yeah, this mom thing is hard. True story.
Turns out this girl lives with just her dad and they don't much so no hot lunch and she usually has a small snack with her. Cracker, carrots ... something. My daughter felt bad and has been giving her half of everything in her lunch.

Told you, I got teary.

I asked her why she
didn't tell me, and she said she was worried the other girl would feel bad or be embarrassed. I just hugged her, told her what an amazing person she is ... then this morning I packed an extra sandwich in her lunch. If her friend doesn't want it, no harm no foul. If she does, RAD.
Just a reminder that when you raise your kids to be better than you, this world wins. :)
