If you criticize “liberation theology” wholesale, your theology game is weak. Words matter, so does nuance in theology. Renouncing ALL liberation theology would require you to renounce the work of the cross (Christ liberated us from sin) & the theology of abolitionists....
It is impossible to have a robust biblical theology and not also have some kind of liberation theology. Black liberation theology is simply one branch of liberation theology. If your beef is with that, say so. But have a little humility & grace in light of WHY it was developed.
“Liberation Theology” dwells on a spectrum. On one hand, you have the curse & bondage it brought to the cosmos. Liberation theology speaks to the liberation of the cosmos from the curse. On other end is a social gospel that finds the culmination of God’s work in social change.
Liberation IS a part of the Gospel & major theme in biblical narrative of redemption. Liberation theology is seen even in the words of a Christ. Read what Jesus says in the Synagogue regarding his ministry... “Sent to proclaim liberty to the captives... set liberty...oppressed.”
Christ’s greatest work is liberating souls from spiritual captivity & bondage to sin. Any liberation theology that prioritizes social liberation over spiritual is profoundly flawed. However, any theology that dismisses social liberation as irrelevant to God’s mission is truncated
