It’s poor by design. Those running the game believe that the bigger the financial prize, the better the excitement and greater the competitiveness in the game.
And up to a point..
You often see clubs doing well in cup competitions but awful in the league for this very reason.
The prize money and financial model is hopeless for the stability of clubs.
This mechanism reinforces the gambling nature in football from top to bottom of the football pyramid.
You’ve heard it said that those in the top 6 must get regular entry..
When financial planning was first done, there was little money in the game so they really could not get it wrong.
Their mistake was, and is, to fail..
They got it wrong.
They are still getting it wrong.
So now clubs NOT gambling and..
They end up meeting a judge in court praying for forgiveness for their sins of being involved, playing the game in the moronic financial setup.
Reduce prize money
Increase stability money.
Top to bottom of pyramid.
Make the game more about sporting ability, less about financial jiggery-pokery.
Value our long footballing heritage, the uniqueness of our national pyramid.
Give kids more chances by reducing risk of financial disaster of losing.
