And then there were a bazillion.
#JoeBiden is running. As he does every few decades. He's announcing next week AFTER everyone does the @CNN debate/town hall event, because how better to diminish everyone else's hard-earned press with your own?
As @IsaacDovere notes: "[Biden’s] decided he isn’t too old, isn’t too out of sync with the current energy in the Democratic Party, and certainly wasn’t going to be chased out by the women who accused him of making them feel uncomfortable or demeaned because of he’d touched them."
Now that Biden is in, he'll have to actually present a platform. Joking about sexual harassment isn't one, nor is complaining #AnitaHill should just get over herself, nor is "I was Obama's VP!"
The question is, who's Biden's base? Not millennials, not Gen Xers.
With #Warren rolling out the most progressive ideas since LBJ totally re-wrote the social fabric of the country by creating a safety net, public everything & Civil Rights, what's Biden's plan? Biden hasn't said one word about policy--he just says he's better than Trump.Who isn't?
And where is Biden getting money?
Bernie has been raising money non-stop since 2015. He's got program. And Harris is raking in money and endorsements--she's 2nd after Sanders. Buttigieg is everywhere and is not about to let Biden take over his spotlight.
At some point--likely on the debate stage in June--the age question will have to be raised. Even with his spray tan which is far better than Trump's, Biden is looking much older. He and Sanders will be in their 80s in 2024 against a younger GOP field AND other Democrats.
I wrote this at the midterms, but it won't cease to be relevant. A surprising number of presidents have had heart attacks, strokes and died in office--all younger than #Biden and Bernie. The presidency isn't the SCOTUS or even Speaker.
Is wanting to be president enough of a reason to run?
As Dovere notes: "The man who would become the oldest president in American history needs to get through a primary—one that’s already tracking 18 other candidates." All of whom have solid resumes and none of #Biden's baggage.
#KamalaHarris said everyone can run, but should everyone run? #TerryMcAuliffe and #SherrodBrown--both more than a decade younger than #Biden--decided not to.
And neither had two abysmal runs, Anita Hill and the Crime Bill in their baggage.
And while #Biden thinks the subject of touching women is over because he joked about it, it will come up in debates, as will the #CrimeBill, which Hillary got mauled over in 2016 when Sanders voted for it and Biden wrote it.
This piece I wrote was partly about #Biden, but more about the larger issue of #consent. Nevertheless, the women are still there, as is Biden's non-apology and have we missed Biden in the race? No, we have not. There are more exciting candidates.
The weary tone of this piece in @TheAtlantic is exactly how so many women feel about a Biden candidacy--particularly younger women.
"His non-apology apologies have lingered, phantom-like, for so long that they’ve become a running joke in the Hill family."
It's difficult to imagine anyone reading this piece by @rtraister and voting for #Biden. Long, researched, searing, it's the vetting people claim to want about candidates until they get it.
The anti-abortion stance is a stunner.
There are myriad pieces out there about why Biden shouldn't run. Someone should have read them to the former VP.
A lot can happen between now and next year. We need the strongest nominee. And that will never be #Biden.
