'#Baloch terrorist organizations' is a misnomer and a dangerous term that should not be used in official and media lexicon in #Pakistan. It risks creating permanent fissures in #Pakistani society. /1

In its letter to #Iran embassy on anti-#Pakistan terrorism emanating from #Iranian soil, #Pakistani MFA referred to '#Baloch terror organizations' twice. MFA is not alone in doing this. Variations like 'Baloch terrorists' are common in our public discourse. /2
@AQpk
The term '#Baloch terror organizations' & its variations risks making a permanent association between '#Baloch' & '#terror', & the link must be disturbing for the ears of #Pakistani Baloch & insensitive to their feelings. /3
@AQpk
Similar insensitivity was seen after anti-terror operations in #Pakistan against terror groups based in tribal areas & in #Afghanistan. Often men dressed in #Pashtun attire were associated with terrorism in newspaper & TV dramatizations. /4
@AQpk
Instead of saying '#Baloch terror organizations,' a better term would be 'groups claiming to represent the Baloch' or claiming to represent #Balochistan. De-legitimization of terror groups is part of the war against them. /5
@AQpk
When we recognize terror groups operating in #Balochistan as #Baloch, we legitimize them, when in fact most of them are foreign-backed by #India in bases in #Iran/#Afghanistan. /6
@AQpk
Terrorism has no identity or religion. Terrorists want to create the impression they represent the #Baloch. We should deny them this by not using terms like 'Baloch terror orgs.' They claim to represent them but don't. In realty majority of #Pakistani Baloch reject them./7
@AQpk
Language sensitization is part of the war on terror and to counter narratives that seek to divide #Pakistani society. This sensitization stops terror groups from achieving legitimacy. /8
