With the news that "ex-communist" #ClaireFox is standing for the #BrexitParty of #NigelFarage (with the backing of @spikedonline - Ed. Brendan O'Neill), let's have a look at the views of the RCP/LivingMarxism/Spiked on Irish Republicanism over the years. 1/11
The RCP (aka RCT then) refused to "condemn or criticise the Birmingham bombings". (The Next Step. No. 3 1980) 2/11

Indeed they held the view that only when "large numbers of British workers respond to IRA bombs with jubilation" would they consider criticising the Provos. (The Next Step No. 10. 1981) 3/11

There was also no criticism of the Warrington bombs. Instead the RCP (front org the Irish Freedom Movement) defended "the right of the Irish people to take whatever measures necessary in their struggle for freedom". (Irish Freedom №22 1993). 4/11

They did see fit though to start criticising the Provos when they entered talks to end violence. They stated "the liberation of Ireland's future must now start anew". (Irish Freedom. Winter 1993). 5/11

The RCP/IFM thought it was incumbent on "anti-imperialists in Britain" to expose the peace process as a "dangerous sham". (Irish Freedom. Summer 1994). 6/11

This led to them giving backing to dissident Republicans against the #GoodFridayAgreement. Here's a report of Brendan O'Neill of @spikedonline attending a meeting in solidarity with Josephine Hayden in 1997. 7/11

Ms. Hayden had been convicted of gun-running on behalf of Continuity IRA (armed wing of Republican Sinn Fein). As seen in this interview she continued to back the "armed struggle" in opposition to the #GFA. 8/11

In 1998, O'Neill called the #GoodFridayAgreement a "disgrace" echoing the criticisms of the dissident Republican groups the RCP/IFM were now backing. (LM 110 May 1998). 9/11

As I wrote here, I believe the RCP/LM/Spiked still oppose the #GFA but, as seen from their backing for #BrexitParty, they do so from a different angle. 10/11

The RCP's uncritical support for the IRA's bombing campaign was their "unique selling point" on the British left. Many of their key members are now with @spikedonline. More here with links- 11/11
