Biden is often compared to weak front-runners of the recent past, but w/ three new polls putting him near 40% nationally, his support is starting to look very different than theirs.

For example, here's Jeb in the RCP daily average - his post-announcement peak in '15 was...17.8%
Then there's Mitt Romney -- he never got past 25% for all of 2011. Didn't start approaching where Biden is now until he began winning primaries:
I don't have a daily average for '04 Dems, but John Kerry at best hit around ~20% in the early-going, faded in late '03, then caught fire in Iowa as Dean collapsed:
If there's a weak front-runner Biden opponents can point to for inspiration, it's probably Rudy Giuliani in '07/'08, who peaked in the high '30s following his announcement and very slowly faded out:
Yes, there's a post-announcement bounce at work here. Yes, it may end up just receding. And yes, this is Joe Biden we're talking about. But if he can sustain this level of support, he's a much stronger front-runner than we've been talking about.
