Some of us made the effort to investigate the widespread crime in government, media and industry, and its enabling cultural and social networks. I've been thinking a lot about how to engage with those who were rude, condescending, and conceited when we spoke out truthfully.
I see #WWG1WGA as a call to unity, which means forgiving but not forgetting. Those who falsely claim to have "known all along" must be called out on their (self-)deception. Your track record of discernment matters when it comes to whose opinion we cherish in future.
What we must not do is fuel future cycles of conflict and violence (which can be verbal, social and psychological — not just physical). Ostracising people because they disagree with us is wrong. I have seen this coercive strategy through my family's entanglement with the JW cult.
Just as we must not emit wrongness, we must also not receive it. The behaviour of many people towards truth tellers has been indefensible. It doesn't matter how strong your beliefs are, there are some basic principles of civilised behaviour, and they often have been violated.
In the "service to others" mindset, the trap is to take a one-down position, making you vulnerable to exploitation; or a one-up position, becoming an unconscious tyrant imposing your desired outcome on others "for their own benefit".
Taking a one-down or one-up position (that is not warranted by the context) in turn fuels a victim-persecutor-rescuer cycle, which never ends well. The "golden rule" avoids this, saying DON'T do unto others as you would NOT have done to yourself.
In summary, those who have grace will recognise they have been deceived and join us without any mutual rancour. The speed with which they change course to align with righteousness and reality gives is sufficiently creditable to wipe out any difference in timing between us.
For those who persist in supporting criminality and evil, if only tacitly, it is not our job to insulate them from the consequences of their choices. The solution I see is to leave them in the company of others who share their delusions. That is punishment enough for their folly.
