Jared Kushner spoke about the Trump administration’s Middle East peace efforts during @WashInstitute's 2019 Soref Symposium dinner last night: c-span.org/video/?460344-…
.@robsatloff began the evening’s event with Kushner by saying, “Tonight is not the big reveal.”

No one expected it to be. Note the timing: Three days before Ramadan. Kushner wants the Arab world to stew over this.
Kushner claims his plan is “an in-depth operational document” and that “we built a great business plan.” This is language for the real estate community, not for the world of foreign policy.
“We read a lot of books,” says Jared.

Really? Multiple sources for #KushnerInc told me Jared was anything but a reader.

“Nobody reads novels,” he once told @espiers. To which she replied, “No, *you* don’t read novels.”
Kushner: “This is all of our collective responsibility.”

He talks about cooperation in the region and yet he greenlit the blockade of Qatar by KSA, UAE, Egypt, and Bahrain—until, that is, the Qataris came to DC and suggested they had money for all sorts of projects.
The US withdrew its support of the blockade a mere two weeks before a miraculous deal saved Kushner Companies’ troubled building 666 Fifth Avenue.
.@robsatloff: “There’s no ignoring the fact that one of the leaderships loves you and the other leadership publicly vilifies the administration. Is that an environment, from your experience, that’s conducive to negotiating success?”

This is a key question.
My sources say the Arab world ultimately will not subsidize this plan. MBS will tell Kushner, “Sorry, I’m not the king. And the king says ‘no.’” They’ve been leading Kushner along only because he’s a useful conduit to POTUS and to the accompanying potential of wheeling & dealing.
The Palestinians feel no urgent imperative to accept any US-imposed peace plan. If birth rates continue as they are, they are going to outnumber the Israelis very quickly.
Jared Kushner sees the economic divide as a bigger issue for the region than tribalism. And this, many experts think, is his vision’s fatal flaw. The people of the Middle East care more about sovereignty than money.
While Jared Kushner is talking oh-so-smoothly about his plan for peace in the Middle East, let’s not forget: The White House still refuses to let Congress know any of the details about his and Ivanka’s security clearances.
