/15 Sometimes it takes a Revolution to change things. Here follows a thread on 2019 PC politics, 20+ years later. Djokovic, Haase, Pospisil and others all have things to say. We should hear them out, with respect: "1988: The ATP's Parking Lot Revolution" tennis.com/pro-game/2015/…
/15 Some media has been engaging in a smear campaign against the Council, specifically Djokovic, since Kermode was voted out, although ultimately it was the Board's choice & all 3 - JG, Inglot, Egdes - voted the same.
/15 Tournaments are up in arms because the Council wants a fairer distribution of funds for the lower ranked players
/15 UK media are up in arms bc Brit Kermode was voted out. They've compared Pospisil to Trump & smeared ND almost weekly. They even disbelieve the Council wants what's best for Players
/15 They want fairness and decency; it's on record
/15 They want players to be able to afford to travel with their families; it's on record
/15 They want MORE players - players ranked outside 100 - to earn a good living
/15 Pospisil's letter made the Council's objectives clear and transparent, yet some media has smeared the PC saying they aren't transparent
/15 The media tried to pit Federer & Nadal against the PC; The Times even approached Wawrinka to sign his name to a letter. BUT Fedal also fought for the players when they ousted a CEO & were on Council. See Rafa's words:
/15 A lower ranked source suggested the ATP leaders are after a "power grab" & said players not on PC have to express interested; it goes both ways.
/15 Hasse complained about media pressure and suggested the Council will work out differences on their own. He also suggested tournament reps were against Kermode at one point too
/15 It's been quietly reported that the lower ranked players DO support Djokovic and the Council's efforts to improve conditions for them and not just the high profile players. Which would be selfish.
/15 Most anglo #TennisJournalism has ignored this & the ITF/ATP turf war, instead siding with ATP CEOs and Tournament Directors to quash the attempt at redistribution (or a union) & smearing the PLAYERS. What's shocking is FANS siding with establishment!!
/15 The PC have whittled down 15 candidates for the Board member who will represent THEM now that JG has resigned. VERY little media even covered the candidates or wrote about this. But watch; they will now complain about the Council for this, too
/15 20 years ago change started in a parking lot bc PLAYERS stood together. Change is hard. Tennis is traditionalist. But many of us respect the Council's hours of *voluntary* work.Well done!🙌🏻 #Djokovic #Anderson #Haase #Pospisil #Lu #Murray #Soares #Isner #Querrey #Stakhovsky
