At some point you have to ask yourself why Republicans are obsessed with this issue, but not prison reform or humane and moral immigration laws or ending family separation at the border or supporting vulnerable women and children.
It’s not a pro-life ethic when it’s not consistent. Period.
I reject bids for power built on the backs of the suffering of real women and children in the name of “life.”
I suspect there are a lot of Christians like me out here, who feel confused and sad about the issue of abortion. We cannot celebrate death in any form. But we cannot celebrate laws like this that are so clearly designed for power and not out of true concern for the suffering.
I’m so mad and sad right now. I was sold a bill of goods politically from a young age. People who are fine with protecting gun rights and closing borders and letting refugees die in camps and killing civilians with drones . . . they are not pro life.
I don’t know quite how to say this but here goes: a real Christ-centered ethic that values all life will ruin you. It will make you less sure of anything, it will bring you close to suffering. It will make you weep with those who weep. It will complicate your life in every way.
I want to cultivate this in myself. I want to never be at peace unless those who are the farthest away from flourishing in our world experience shalom. In a sense, to be pro-life means to be a perpetual mourner until that day comes.
