installing a used commercial fridge in my house remains one of the best decisions i've ever made. 1/10 the price of a new one, no change to the electricity bill, and yes it's loud but i don't sleep in the damn kitchen. can't recommend this course of action enough.
yes i had to smash out the overhead cabinets with a sledgehammer to make it fit and no i haven't patched up the trim and also who gives a shit? i love owning a house. nobody can tell me to care about trim, a thing i profoundly do not care about
someone asked about freezer space. i have a separate full size freezer out in the barn! i understand this is not normal or achievable for many people but it works well for me. it's full of berries, homemade tomato sauce, whole salmon, loaves of discount bread and rabbit pelts
i'm a county extension service master food preserver and i freeze stuff WAY more than i can it. i know how to can but freezing is just so efficient and easy. the only downside is a potential power outage.
i've thought about buying a generator and some fuel and keeping it on hand just to use to run the freezer until we can eat it's contents in the event of an Event. everything else i can run off grid but that freezer is a big liability
