Abortion was not invented by feminists in 1973 & merely criminalizing abortion won’t end it. Sensible laws are part but not all of the answer. Pro-life Christians need to think holistically & compassionately about the issue by caring for women rather than incarcerating them.
Reading about the 19th cen Abolitionist movement, I see parallels to the Pro-Life movement today. Some white Christian abolitionists wanted to end the evil of slavery bc they feared God’s judgment of the US, but they didn’t all believe in racial equality...
...or integration. Instead, some advocated for the repatriation of freed slaves to Africa. They wanted a clear conscience by ending slavery, but also avoid the sacrifices necessary to make America a racially diverse society...
...Similarly, some pro-life folks (not all) who focus solely on courts/politics want to end the legal sanction of abortion so the US can appear righteous, but say nothing on the social & economic policies that help women & have been proven to reduce abortions...
To be pro-life in the Christian sense needs to be much more voting for certain politicians/judges and overturning one SOCTUS ruling. It should influence our views on education, health care, economics, taxes, criminal justice, etc...
...It comes down to whether we really want to alleviate the suffering of women and children, or merely alleviate the guilty consciences of white conservative Christians. Changing one law (Roe v. Wade) may solve the latter but not the former...
Whether you attribute it to evolution or God’s design, the fact is for 9mos the wellbeing of a woman & child are inseparable. The Left elevates the woman’s wellbeing above the child’s; the Right puts the child above the woman. It’s a false distinction for political expediency...
...Our current system of unfettered access to abortion, including late-term, harms women spiritually, emotionally, and often physically. Denying women economic aid, health care, & education harms their children—born & unborn. So does putting them in jail...
...If we really want to help both women and children, let’s advocate for policies—legal, social, & economic—that have been proven to reduce abortions & crate environments that alleviate the conditions that cause more women to seek them. That goes well beyond partisan politics.
