Pro-choice protections also protect unborn babies and allow mothers the freedom to carry a child to birth.

Eugenics, forced sterilization, and forced abortion are a thing.

If the state has the right to force a birth, the have the right to force an abortion.

Laws, in a Rule-of-Law society, gain their legitimacy off of core principals.

Freedom of Religion means that you can both practice (or not) the religion of your choice AND be free from being forced to practice a state religion.
The principal of freedom of choice, where a woman decides whether to bring a fetus to term, means they can abort if they see fit AND they can’t be forced to abort by the state.

Eugenics, forced sterilization, & forced abortion by the state exist (and have existed in the US).
You can’t pass laws that say “Only this and not that” when the principal allows both. Not in a Rule of Law society.

When you do that, when laws are sliced one way to protect your specific belief, those are called Decrees. And it is not the basis of a free society.
Those that break down Rule of Law to push their specific agenda will have the tables turned against them when the regime changes.

You protect yourself by protecting others.
