If your argument about your candidate is that reporters vetting him is an infringement on his rights, then maybe running for president is too much for him, because that is exactly what Trump thinks, too. And We The People deserve answers, not tantrums.
And this applies not just to Bernie, but to Biden and anyone else who is running to replace Trump. If you can't explain your history, your issues, your plans to reporters vetting you for American voters, you have no business in the race.
As for men arguing that Sander's treatment of Ember was not just okay but deserved cheers, you totally missed the point. Sanders is running on his record. So he needs to answer questions. Same with Biden. If the question itself feels like a gotcha, then say so.
Sanders easily could have said, "Sydney, I don't think this is the question to ask. I think the question to ask is, why would a US president (Reagan) be engaged in a Central American coup?"
SEE HOW EASY THAT WAS?
The answer is not "You're an idiot and a girl, too!"
Since I think Sanders is 100% right on Nicaragua, I really wish he had done that instead of having a tantrum which just reinforced for the unknowlegable public that Sanders has something to hide.
Meanwhile, the guy who does have things to hide, Biden, just handwaves questions.
Men set this situation in motion with the way they let Sanders and Trump skate in 2016 while talking relentlessly about Hillary's emails.
But thinking that 2020 is 2016 is an error. And with 24 people in the race, some quite progressive and all smart, this won't wash.
Sexism always gets a pass, because structural misogyny is baked into this society, but this exchange with Sanders is more than that. It speaks to Sanders' unrelenting refusal to be accountable to voters.
America isn't VT--the whitest and 2nd least populous state.
2020 demands a nominee who moves us forward, not backward. Impatience with the electorate is not a winning strategy, just like telling Democrats they shouldn't be angry is not a winning strategy. If you don't see that, ask yourself why.
