@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline Bulwark has really been giving Donald the benefit of the doubt. His level of concern for “his people” hinges on his dependency on them for getting what he wants. I find this more likely than a good faith yet simplistic “my team good. Other team bad” explanation.
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline I really appreciate the author pointing out exactly what went down linguistically w the “deplorable” comment though. However, there is no innocent explanation here. It was racist.Could have been for votes cynically or a genuine belief system. Fred was arrested for marching w KKK.
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline IMHO, I think Trump is probably substantially prejudiced, displaying more racism than his same aged peers in the gen pop. However, he is not a raging klan member or committed WS. But his moral depravity enables him psychologically to amplify those voices for votes(reprehensible)
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline In sum, @TheRickWilson is incorrect imo. The article is not so good bc it tries to exonerate trump of selfish, callous greedy motives & of his disregard 4 rights + feelings of others. It paints him as dedicated 2 & motivated by a desire to 🙄 protect his in group from out group🤮
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline How many times has Trump made fun of his base for being white trash in private? #AskingForAFriend

The article is detached from reality.
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline Not only that, the article was like edited by Bill Barr or something. After the author establishes Trump as an earnest defender of “his ppl” who is somehow understandably unaware of his own mainstreaming of racism through his language use, the author makes some totally
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline unassailable claims that are so fair balanced & unobjectionable that his intended audience (who he sees as not too bright imo) could easily get lulled into thinking the whole argument must have been reasonable.
@TheRickWilson @Mandahl @BulwarkOnline The manipulative bit being that regardless of his motives and internal subjective experience, his behavior is categorically bad. Yeah, well no shit.
