The Tamoios Ecological Station, is formed by 29 islands. This protected area was created by the Brazilian government in 1990 with the objectives of conservation, research and environmental education.
In 2012, Bolsonaro was fined by Ibama for fishing in this area. The fine was cancelled this year. But he is not happy in committing an environmental crime by himself and now wants to open the area for tourism.
He is pushing to destroy the ecological station and according to him “transform the area in the Brazilian Cancun” ignoring the plea of environmental scientists and even the local community.
The area is a safe haven for dolphins, whales, penguins, seals, sea lions, plus countless species of fishes. The terrestrial portion is predominantly of untouched Atlantic Forest #brazil
