THREAD.

I was asked today to share my thoughts on the potential effect of what appears to be a mass exodus of talented #women from the #corporate world.

I thought perhaps it was a good time for a history lesson.

We don't have to wonder about the potential, we've already seen it. The last US recession impacted a lot of people (maybe except the bankers who caused it), but it hit women of color hardest. #truth #WOC

(2/7)
It represented one of the greatest losses of wealth in recent history and the demographic that was hit hardest is now the single most entrepreneurial group in the nation, women of color. Coincidence? Nope.

(3/7)
Necessity breeds ingenuity and women of color lead the way here. Whether it's an exodus or mass layoffs, the result is the same, women leave places they aren't welcome and become entrepreneurial. #facts

(4/7)
And when they do, they bring innovation & huge economic growth potential. GROWTH that, but for a financial system that's driven by IRRATIONAL BIAS rather than maximizing shareholder value, would be the largest source of wealth & economic growth ever seen.

(5/7)
Women, especially women of color, have been stymied by a system that works against them, so I for one AM EXCITED about what the exodus from corporate means. Why?

(6/7)
Because it's an early sign that competent women, having survived in large organizations that do not serve them, are leaving to build THEIR OWN. And this time they'll build them right.

We're banking on it. Right @ArlanWasHere @WOCstarz @MoniqueWoodard @PalafoxCarmen @nakisnakis ?
