THREAD: The Daily Mail published an article entitled “Vicar resigns after being ‘silenced’ over a Church of England school’s plan to keen an eight-year-old pupil’s sex change a secret from parents"

I read it. As the parent of a trans kid & LGBTQ educator, here’s my response.
First of all, ‘sex change’ is an outdated term and obviously click-bait. Second, 8-year-olds can’t have a ‘sex change.’

Pre-pubescent trans kids socially transition: Changes to name, pronouns, clothing and hair, maybe legal docs. That’s it. Let’s not make it more than it is.
What the vicar was angry about is that OTHER parents (not the trans kid’s parents) wouldn’t be told about this transition.

1. They shouldn't be because it's confidential
2. They don’t need to know the state of another child’s genitals because EVERY SINGLE REASON IMAGINABLE
“The dispute comes amid growing controversy over the number of children now choosing to change gender” should read “now choosing to live as their true gender”

But okay, Daily Mail, you do you, girl. You always do, anyway.
Mr. Parker, the Vicar, wrote a resignation letter saying he felt children were being ‘sacrificed on the altar of trans ideology’

Translation: Children are following the scientifically-sound affirmative model of care, which has been proven to have best outcomes worldwide.
“I felt it was no longer a Christian place of grace and truth – it was a place of oppression” says the white, cis, presumably straight Vicar with post-secondary education about not being able to out a child from a marginalized and highly oppressed group.

Poor guy.
Mr. Parker is also going after Mermaids, a UK organization that came into the school to educate staff on trans issues. He claims their training isn’t scientific.

@Mermaids_Gender has released a statement in response, with receipts: mermaidsuk.org.uk/press-enquiry-…
But wait! Mr. Parker has a background in biology. HE KNOWS THINGS.

He’s also 49. When did he study biology? Because I’m guessing Oxford didn’t have access to recent findings and current studies on trans people unless they’d developed time travel (!!!)
By the way, thanks to the Daily Mail for the *counts* FIVE different posed photos of Mr. Parker hanging out around a church and/or chillin' next to a pulpit and/or holding a bible.

These are very important to the story.
Doesn’t the bible teach us that God took a rib from Adam to create Eve?

Does Mr. Parker believe that?

Or does he believe the bible, like his old biology textbooks, were written before we understood biology the way we do today?
The Mail slams Mermaids at every turn in this article. They even bring up how the charity was accused of exaggerating the risk of suicide in trans children.

Nope. That risk is pretty high if kids aren’t affirmed, thanks.

Mr. Parker is also mad at the church itself for not tolerating “different views within the church” (which I think means "transphobic views" but I'm just guessing)

As of December, they have baptism-style ceremonies for trans people now. HOW COOL IS THAT?! *tear slips down cheek*
“But when I raised my worries with bishops about the direction the church was moving, I was told that if I didn’t accept their approach, I could leave”

HALLELUJAH!

Don't let the pulpit hit you on the way out, Mr. Parker.
“The school eventually decided to email parents on the day of the pupil’s transition to let them know what was happening.” Lovely. They outed a vulnerable kid. That’s… awful. And dangerous. And hopefully illegal. Shame on them. I would 100% be suing my trans kid's school.
A former parishioner said of Mr. Parker “He’s well respected, and he’s respectable. There’s no way you could say that he’s a bigot.”

Well, 2019, Common Sense and I are going to have to disagree with you there.
Anyway, this whole article leans heavily in favor of what appears to be a bitter transphobe who misses the good ol’ days where we didn’t have to be respectful or understanding of people who are different. Poor Mr. Parker.

Great photos, though. Very dapper.
That's all I have to say on that.

If you want to cheer on an incredible organization, please follow @Mermaids_Gender and donate to them if you can. They take a beating in a hostile world for trans youth & their families and they deserve our support.
