Something bothers me about Jared Dearing, the KY Election Board Director (D) who filed the ethics complaint against @KySecofState (Alison Grimes, D), which provided the fodder for @JessicaHuseman's reporting & take down of Grimes. 1/
/ When Dearing made the complaint against Grimes, the top two Democratic contenders for KY governor were Grimes & Andy Beshear whose father (then governor Steve Beshear) had pardoned Dearing's father in 2015. courier-journal.com/story/news/201…
/ By joining with Republicans to take down Grimes, was Dearing returning a political favor to the Beshear family?
/ A few years back, Steve Beshear (who pardoned Dearing's father) was one of only a few Democratic governors to make @CREWcrew's list of the most corrupt governors in the United States. citizensforethics.org/press-release/…
/ Andy Beshear is Kentucky's AG, but his top deputy was indicted for bribery. courier-journal.com/story/news/cri…
/ Andy Beshear just won the Democratic primary for governor of Kentucky.
/ But for Dearing (whose dad was pardoned by Beshear's dad), it may well have been Grimes. propublica.org/article/alison…
/ Why didn't @ProPublica mention the connection between the Dearings and the Beshears? It seems relevant.
/ When Huseman emphasized recently that one of her contacts on this story was a "Democrat," she seemingly meant to imply that the complaints against Grimes weren't politically motivated. Given the Beshear/Dearing/Grimes trifecta, that does not seem a safe assumption to make.
/ Huseman's article was published the month after Grimes gave birth to her 1st child. Presumably, Grimes would not have been in a good position to respond to the crisis exacerbated by Huseman's reporting.

/ * 1/31/19 article by Huseman citing Dearing's complaint. propublica.org/article/kentuc…
/ Were Huseman and ProPublica unwitting pawns in a political hit job?
/ In any event, the Democratic Secretary of State in KY, Alison Grimes, has now been stripped of her powers. This is Mitch McConnell's state.
/ @ProPublica's reporting should at least have mentioned the Dearing/Beshear connection and the $30K political donation made by KY's actual voting machine vendor, ES&S, to the GOP. gritpost.com/22-kentucky-co…
/ IMO. I've said my peace for now.
