So now that it’s Pride Month, I would like to tell a little story.

I have never really felt like I was strictly one category. I’ve never felt completely straight, but I’m attracted to women, so gay didn’t fit. I never felt like “bi” fit either. I have, and had, 1/x
days where I feel less attracted to men, overall, and days where I feel only attracted to men. I don’t like to label it, because it is what it is.

But on to the actual story - accepting that part of me was always a huge thing because of various things in my upbringing, 2/x
as well as an ex of mine. I distinctly remember my pointing out any gay character in a TV show or a movie causing a scene, and she would instantly go on the offensive and say that I was just with her for a cover up and that I was a f*ggot that just wouldn’t accept it. 3/x
I remember a specific time - I was watching Law and Order: SVU. I grew up on that show. I had watched a scene where Agent Tutuola (Ice-T) said something about his son being gay. I had never seen that before and went to tell my ex that. That single factoid lead to 4/x
a fight that lasted for actual hours, because she thought I was focusing entirely on that single part.

I was never allowed to accept that side. If I ever showed an inclination of it, it wasn’t worth the fight.

I’m saying all of for those of you 5/x
struggling with your own identity or sexuality, for any reason - you’re not alone. You will have a safe space, and someone you’re able to talk to. Don’t be ashamed of who you are, what you identify as or who you’re attracted to.

Be you. Be fabulous. Be loved. ❤️ 6/6
