Democrats are taking the high-risk path on impeachment. They're trying a complicated parlay wager that 1. the base of organizers either won't care or agrees with slow-walking it all 2. the political capital accumulated in November, 2018 wasn't as anti-Trump as it appeared 1/
3. Turnout will remain higher - indeed, go higher! - without spending any of that capital (which, they conclude, is not Trump related) and 4. that the Democratic base (the organizers, committee people) don't understand House rules or history. 2/
5. the longshot exotic bet that - somehow - Democrats don't want a fight, that they want safety, they want to punt the ball away and will reward House members who back down to Trump. Finally, 6. that beating Trump in 2020 is a sure thing. 3/
It's an exacta wrapped in a trifecta parlayed into a single race with an unknown horse. It's easily the riskiest political strategy possible. And yet Pelosi's House Dems seem mesmerized by the "sure thing" promise of their bizarrely wild bet. Hold on tight. 😐
