Just been a bit of an odd exchange. Mr Downes suggested Prince Abdullah cheats at fantasy football.
The prince replied: "If you have access to information then you can use that to cheat. I know that desperate times call for desperate measures, but for God's sake." #twitterblades
Prince Abdullah is asked whether he believed he would have had control of any shares bought by the Saudi group [Bin Ladens]. The prince said he did not think he would have 'any difficulty managing' them & suggested they would look to him because of his record with sports clubs.
Mr Downes is suggesting that Prince Abdullah had a 'considerable influence' over Dr Rakan. He has also said the evidence suggests Dr Rakan had pull with the Bin Ladens, the inference being that the Prince would have been in charge of any involvement the Bin Ladens had in #sufc
Back to the subject of the Prince's finances. Mr Downes said: "We're agreed that if the £3million loan from your investors is not found there would be serious consequences for you & #sufc."
"In November [2016] yes, in the January, very different," said the prince #twitterblades
For context, the prince told the court earlier today that he was in a much better financial position in January 2017 because he sold 'more shares than he needed to' when he was experiencing money problems towards the end of 2016. #twitterblades#sufc
Pressed further about the precarious financial position #sufc were in, Prince Abdullah said: "[i thought] maybe Kevin [McCabe] would provide more payment or if worst came to worst I would make difficult decisions but the club would have never been in trouble." #twitterblades
Referring to what he suggests is a potential conflict of interest, Mr Downes asked the prince: "Do you accept that a Saudi minister accepting assistance from the head of a large media, sports and marketing organisation could at least have the appearance of impropriety?" #sufc
The prince has been asked about the suggested conflict of interest several times. Prince Abdullah says that because Dr Rakan knows him (and the way he does business) he wouldn't have made the assumption he would use his influence as a Saudi minister in such a way. #twitterblades
Prince Abdullah has also told the court that Dr Rakan was aware of his business acumen and ability to make millions.
"I could make 10 times the value of Sheffield in one year," said the Prince. #twitterblades#sufc
On to the subject of disclosure, which Mr Downes has described as an 'important part of the British legal system'. He has suggested the prince 'misled' his legal team about the material that would be found on his iPhone X #twitterblades#sufc
Mr Downes has told the court that a lot of material 'we wouldn't have had otherwise' such as the details of meetings with Dr Rakan and others has come from WhatsApp messages on Prince Abdullah's iPhone X. #twitterblades#sufc
Prince Abdullah said he was nervous about handing over his iPhone X because of sensitive material relating to separate business ventures.
Mr Downes said: "I suggest that your nervousness about your iPhone X is because there were conversations between you, Dr Rakan and others...
...about Project Delta that you didn't want to come into this litigation," said Mr Downes.
Prince Abdullah replied: "No, that's 100 per cent not true." #twitterblades#sufc
Back on to the subject of Prince Abdullah's lack of an electronic calendar/log.
"You're a busy man, are you telling me there's no log of your appointments," said Mr Downes.
He added: "Without your calendar or WhatsApp messages, your meetings with Dr Rakan would be invisible."
Mr Downes continued: "I suggest you were concealing as much as you could from the disclosure process."
Prince Abdullah replied: "No that's not true." #twitterblades#sufc
That's it for today. Court isn't sitting tomorrow, but the case will be back in on Friday when the delightful @dhayes_news will be covering. Super @samcoopernews will pick up the case next week. I'll post a court report of today's evidence shortly! #twitterblades#sufc
Was tasked with coming to youth court at Doncaster Magistrates’ Court this morning. Knowing it wouldn’t be straight forward I made sure I had the part of the law that states we’re allowed in (S47 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933) memorised. 1/
As soon as I entered the court I informed the usher that I was a member of the press, showed her my press card & told her the relevant part of the act that allows us access. She went to a legal adviser, who told me the press were not allowed access. I reiterated the law again 2/
She then said that I would have to make an application to the magistrates. I told them I did not need to make an application because it was an automatic freedom awarded to members of the press. They told me I was wrong, and was asked to wait outside while they made a decision 3/
Back underway again now. Prince Abdullah is being asked again about his dealings with investor Dr Rakan Al Harthy. The prince says that one example of when they worked together, as part of his role with the Saudi govt, on the Saudi Football Federation's King's Cup & Prince's Cup.
