The Ishvara Temple at Arasikere in Karnataka is a must visit if you love Indian heritage, & especially Hoysala Temples. Make sure you visit this temple…within 15 years. It’s on its last legs & YOU BETTER HURRY. @ReclaimTemples @TheIndianTemple @TeamGSquare #WalkToTemple
Dedicated to Mahadeva, it is considered to most complex among surviving Hoysala monuments because of its ground plan: a 16-pointed star shaped mantapa (hall), in addition to an asymmetrical star shaped shrine, whose star points are of three different types. #WalkToTemple
The open hall, with its 16-pointed star plan is most unusual design built by Hoysala architects. The central ceiling in the closed mantapa and the vestibule are decorated elaborately. #WalkToTemple
Although the exterior is modest when compared to the opulent exteriors of Haleebedu, the interiors are just astounding. #WalkToTemple
The ceilings is exquisitely carved with trifoliate leaf decorations in concentric circles ending in a huge pending. @kalingaheritage recently tweeted a lovely post abt the ceilings of many temples of which I thought the Radhakanta Matha had a similar ceiling. #WalkToTemple
The bhitti of both the garbhagriha & mahamandapa are treated with the sculptural depictions of Vishnu, which are labeled at the pedestal flanked by Saraswati and Parvathi, Brahma & Siva etc. All these images are represented against massive multifluted pilasters. #WalkToTemple
It is interesting to note that there are eight devakoshtas built into the northern, southern, western walls of the mandapa. #WalkToTemple
The @ASIGoI is almost hell-bent on not preventing the decay and destruction of this priceless heritage. Look at the iron pipes supporting the beautiful mantapa, a local mason would do a better job. We can do much better for future generations @narendramodi #WalkToTemple
The custodian of the temple again does a fabulous job by keeping everything clean. He lights a lamp in front of Mahadeva and I was incredibly grateful for that. I hope that @PMO and @ASIGoI recognizes such devotion to duty. #WalkToTemple
While at Arsikere you can climb up the 1300 steps to the Malekallu Tirupathi Hill Temple which is the only place you can see a standing Venkateshwara idol other than famous Tirupati of Andhra Pradesh. No hotels or restaurants in the place and so plan well. #WalkToTemple
