#Pakistan informed #Iran at highest levels in the past few weeks that #Tehran needs to do as much to ease tensions as other parties should. For example, easing of #US sanctions should come with Iran reducing support to proxies in #Yemen/#Syria. #Iranian officials asked #Islamabad
..to openly hold the #US responsible for current tensions in #Gulf. #Pakistan said tensions are a shared responsibility & all parties can do more to reduce hostilities. Pakistan has assumed responsibilities to secure international navigation in Northern Arabian Sea
just at the mouth of Strait of #Hormuz. #Pakistani naval vessels are patrolling the region and cooperating closely with #Oman #UAE #US and other allies. Pakistan is still reeling from the daring attack of May 11 on #Gwadar which was followed by #Fujairah next day & then #Saudi
pipeline. #Pakistan has apparently refrained from linking #Gwadar attack to #Fujairah/#Yanbu pipeline/#Abha attacks, likely to avoid a possible direct confrontation with #Iran. #Iranian officials been desperately engaging Pak recently on #Balochistan-linked terror groups based
allegedly in #Iran. Several #Iranian delegations have visited #Pakistan as part of indirect #IRGC effort to neutralize #Islamabad in case of a wider war/hostilities in #Gulf. Indications are increasing that #Tehran might want to start a limited war to force the hands of #Trump WH
and force the world to intervene to end crippling sanctions. So, despite #Iran foreign ministry insisting it doesn't want war, the #IRGC apparently wants a quick short war. The shooting down of an American drone in international waters was meant to invite #US retaliation. But
#Washington played it wise and avoided the trap. In such a situation, countries in the region, including #Pakistan, are on alert because this is the time for unexpected actions from #Iran's #IRGC, and they could happen anywhere from #Afghanistan to #Gaza.

The letter by President #Trump to #Khamenei, carried by #Japanese PM was a good attempt to avoid war. Could have opened backdoor talks.
Dawn was the only newspaper in #Pakistan that made this claim after the visit of FM #Zarif, which appears to be incorrect. Multiple sources confirm that #Islamabad urged #Iran to do more to avoid war, as should the #US and other parties.
