A lot of masonic coincidence happening for me right now! At a recent family gathering, I chanced to ask my Uncle (the family genealogist) if he knew of any #Freemasons, past or present. In the family. Yesterday he sent me this ...
Bro Arthur Watson Proctor (my 3rd Great Uncle) was initiated on 27 Feb 1914 into Bohemian Lodge No 3294 in the province of @CheshirePGL.
He was passed on 24 Apr 14 and raised by Duke of Edinburgh Lodge No 1184 in Liverpool’s Masonic Hall. Sadly, both lodges are now erased. Falling into arrears with his lodge during WW1, he was excluded under Rule 175.
Rule 175 at that time allowed for a Mason to fall into arrears by virtue of their wartime service to the Crown or its Allies with pretty much no penalty. He rejoined the Lodge on 25 Apr 19.
But that’s not all …
Delving deeper into our ancestors reveals that Bro Proctor’s father (my 3rd Great Grandfather) was born in the Horncastle area – coincidence being that my Mother Lodge, Rudyard Kipling Lodge No 9681 meets in Horncastle.
Furthermore, the Proctor family had been resident in the Horncastle area going back another 5 generations (approx 150 years!) that my Uncle has found. I’ve called Lincolnshire my home for the past 14 years!
But I’m no Yellow Belly; like Bro Proctor, I’m a Geordie lad hailing from the Newcastle/Durham area, but now it seems I’ve unknowingly returned to one of the origins of my DNA!
To add further coincidence to this tale, at the same time I was piecing together all this information, @CheshirePGL followed me - completely out of the blue - not a follow back! - very spooky! @UGLE_GrandLodge@MuseumFreemason
