Such a bizarre and upsetting day today. We went to Glasnevin cemetery to collect my sisters ashes and interr them in the wall there. We found out this was happening only yesterday pm, not enough time for the sister in London to make it back. When we got to the cemetery
We found the plaque had put her date of death at 2017. She died 2 months ago. Ok. Not great but can be fixed. Then the urn, supplied by the cemetery, turned out to be too big for the space in the wall. Also supplied by the cemetery. Back to the office. Another urn procured. Back
To the wall. Space still not big enough. Bear in mind my elderly parents, still utterly broken with grief. And my sisters little boy, 11 years old, watching this indignity. And her husband, who is being driven up the walls with the daily hassle of reorganising
Every single thing in their lives. All the mundane bureaucracy that comes with death. Standing with roses she grew and he picked and just sighing quietly and not wanting to make a fuss in front of the child. We went for a coffee while the cemetery people sorted out another space
In the wall. It fitted this time. They closed it with the plaque with the wrong year of death, promising to rectify it. And we all went off, stunned with how my poor sister, who never hurt anyone in her life, was treated in death. With such indifference and disregard.
