A great scoop by @AllMattNYT on a disinformation campaign that combines RIRA-style deception with @TheOnion. Rosenberg smartly points out that the SEO success of this site is dependent on links from legitimate media sources. This is why "nofollow" exists!

To the Times' credit, they avoid linking directly to the fake Biden site, but they still can't help but drive a huge amount of interest. Guess when the Times' story went live?
This is a pattern we saw with both the Christchurch and Pelosi-cheapfake videos. The mass media coverage of terrorist content or disinformation has the effect of driving 10x the traffic that might occur organically.

In those cases, the media provided free advertising, but it would still be smart to standardize rules that would disallow this kind of site from using online ads without transparency. A suggestion on how to do so from @persily and myself, from electionreport.stanford.edu:
Here is a first-order pivot of other domains Mr. Mauldin owns using registration data he forgot to hide. The Times' mentioned some of these, like the attached Warren parody.

Dear European Parliament: don't tell me that GDPR ruining whois will have no impact on investigations.
