1./ I truly get tired of repeating this. Many nonspeaking #ActuallyAutistic folk who are diagnosed with ID/DD and are high support needs can type and have access to social media.
2./ It is impossible for me to "ignore" or disregard the needs of #autistic nonverbal high support needs folk with intellectual disabilities because my teen son is one of those people. That is all I speak about.
3./ Sayıng that #ActuallyAutistic activists ignore the needs of "severely autistic" kids and adults shows the parent posting that hogwash has never met the disabled folk tweeting. I have. So I am aware of the degree of disability and comorbid health crises they managed daily.
4./The propaganda that #ActuallyAutistic activists demanding a better quality of life for younger autistics infringes on the rights of nonverbal high support needs children reminds me of the myth that my integrating an all white school would keep white students grades down.
5./ This isn't about our nonverbal kids. It is about parents uncomfortable about a generation of #ActuallyAutistic adults speaking about their lived experiences. This doesn't take away your parental privilege. Chill out and listen, and you will grasp this.
6./ The minute we parents stop treating #autistic activists as competitors for the same resources and realize that the problem is billions of dollars going to research and not to live long supports all stakeholders need things will get better for all of us.
7./ #ActuallyAutistic activists are the strawmen organizations use to keep parents from asking questions like where billions of dollars in autism funding going when high support needs autistics need lifespan in home support, AAC supports, and lifelong community based housing
8./Start asking how a woman got away with selling bleach pills to parents that can kill our kids! Ask how our community got so wrapped up in looking for something to blame for our kids autism that we have a vaccine crisis now!
What matters isn't why our kids are #autistic. What matters is how do we advocate for them so they can live their best lives. We can't do that if we don't fight those folks fighting for exactly the QoL services and supports they need to live autonomous lives.
Rant done
P. S. I am TIRED and typing this from my hospital bed. Shady parents and profiteers turning #ActuallyAutistic activists self sacrifice and body of disability justice work into boogeyman out to get parents makes me that angry.
*If we don't stop fighting folks who are fighting for
