Property developer and CEO Tim Gurner: "We need to see unemployment rise. Unemployment has to jump 40, 50 percent in my view. We need to see pain in the economy. We need to remind people that they work for the employer, not the other way around."
"There's been a systematic change where employees feel the employer is extremely lucky to have them, as opposed to the other way around...We've got to kill that attitude and that has to come through hurting the economy."
"Governments around the world are trying to increase unemployment to get that to some sort of normality...We're starting to see less arrogance in the employment market, and that has to continue"

I obtained surveillance footage of the self-driving Tesla that abruptly stopped on the Bay Bridge, resulting in an eight-vehicle crash that injured 9 people including a 2 yr old child just hours after Musk announced the self-driving feature.

I hadn't realized how much of a wild west the self-driving vehicles business is. For example, there are no federal restrictions on the testing of autonomous vehicles on public roads.

Look how confident private industry was that the Biden admin would prevent a rail strike. Per coal company investor call: “We’re still believing that the federal government will be involved enough to prevent…So we’re placing a low probability on it.”

Of rail strike possibility, coal company CEO reassured investors that workers’ demands were “mostly just about money and not other working conditions or working standards that could get more emotional”.

Even the CEO thought their demands were modest!

At first the CIA was so confident of a Ukrainian defeat they told Biden the best they could hope for was an insurgency they could covertly arm. Whoops!

My latest with @JamesRisen1:

US involvement in Ukraine is taking place under a highly classified covert action finding by President Obama. Intelligence officials expressed frustration that there hasn't been a new finding, which would notify Congress

The CIA was so sure of a Ukrainian defeat that they pulled out clandestine assets - including Navy SEALs - just prior to the Russian invasion. They sent them back when it became clear that the Ukrainians were winning.

CEO of $12 billion company told investors he's "praying for inflation," an unusually candid admission of a dirty secret in the business world: corporations use inflation as a pretext to jack up prices.

theintercept.com/2022/09/28/inf…
“it’s kind of like a rain dance, I pray for inflation every day I come to work because…our top line is really driven by inflation," CEO William Meaney told investors. "Every point of inflation expands our margins.”
