1) The Ugly Truths About Planned Parenthood – Thread for 7.10.19

Abortion has been one of the most divisive topics in American society & politics for over 40 yrs. Advocates for women's reproductive rights don't want you to know the darker side of the organization.
2) This thread will cover the following topics:
a) How PP is legally represented on Capitol Hill through campaign contributions/lobbying
b) How they profit from the sale of aborted fetal tissue/body parts
c) The actions being taken by the Trump Administration to stop the abuses
3) Planned Parenthood is a non-profit org. In addition, there are 3 powerful advocacy & political campaign orgs that ensure representation in government. This is very important for understanding how PP can operate as a non-profit and still be qualified to receive federal funding.
4) Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc (PP)
A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides reproductive health care in the United States and globally. PP is the largest single provider of reproductive health services, including abortion, in the United States.
5) Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF)
A 501(c)(4) organization that is the advocacy and political arm of PP. PPAF endorses candidates for office and runs advocacy campaigns supporting and opposing candidates based on their stances on reproductive healthcare policies.
6) Planned Parenthood Action Fund - PAC
A federal political action committee. The PAC can spend money in electoral politics by donating to parties or candidates they support, subject to contribution limits defined by state and federal election agencies
7) Planned Parenthood Votes - A Super PAC (PPV)
Can raise and spend unlimited amounts of money. The group cannot contribute directly to a politician or political party, but it can spend independently to campaign for or against political figures.
8) PPV endorses and spends money in races that concern reproductive healthcare policies.

Federal Funding
PP receives approximately $500 million in funding each year
9) There has pressure to stop federal funding
*Pro-life advocates don’t want their tax dollars used to fund abortions (perceived)
*PP benefits from millions spent on campaign contributions/lobbying
*They have been caught selling fetal tissue and aborted body parts
10) The Hyde Amendment
By law federal funding cannot be allocated for abortions (except in rare cases), but some opponents of abortion have argued that allocating money to PP for the provision of other medical services allows other funds to be reallocated for abortions

12) Fact: The majority of campaign contributions go to the Democratic Party.
According the Center for Responsive Politics, PP Votes raised and spent about $22 million in 2016
*included $2.4 million to support Hillary Clinton
*included $2.8 million to oppose Donald Trump
13) Separately, PPAF PAC spent about $1.2 million on political donations in 2016
*It made a little more than $670,000 in contributions to federal candidates
*$665,000 went to Democrats
*$5,000 went to Republicans
14) Some additional information on how the Super PACS get their funding.
Members of the Soros family were major donors to PP Votes:
*George Soros: $1.5 million
*Andrea Soros Colombel (daughter): $1.25 million
*Jonathan Soros (son)and his wife Jennifer each gave $1 million
15)*Michael Bloomberg also contributed $1 million (pictured below)

In 2018, the top donors to PPV included:
Retired publisher Richard Rosenthal: $2.1 million
Real estate heiress Amy Goldman Fowler: $2 million
Andrea Soros Colombel: $1.5 million.
16) Unlike its sister super PAC, PPAF PAC is a regular PAC that is limited in how much it can raise from individuals ($5,000) and contribute to candidate committees ($2,700 per election).

According to FEC records compiled by Open Secrets, in total, the PPAF and PPV spent...
17) ...almost $6.5 million in outside spending supporting the election of Democrats to both houses of Congress in the 2018 midterm and special elections.

18) Example of Contributions to a Candidate
In 2017, Gov. Ralph Northam-VA received $1,976,881 in campaign contributions from PPAF of VA.
He was also in favor of the full-term abortion bill in VA (known as infanticide). Fortunately, the bill didn't pass.

19) Important Notable: Northam is a licensed Pediatrician. According to the Hippocratic Oath he is obligated to “do no harm”.

Dr. Hamada, who is a Board Certified OB/GYN, tweeted there is NO valid medical reason to abort a baby at full term!

20) The Debate Over Selling Aborted Fetal Tissue and Body Parts
PP claims the organization does not profit from the sale of aborted fetal tissue and body parts, but the following evidence tells a very different story.
21) Proof that PP Profits from the Sale of Fetal Tissue and Baby Parts
Planned Parenthood official discussing the possibility of altering an abortion procedure to better preserve fetal tissues and organs for medical research.

22) PP Senior Director of Medical Services, Dr. Deborah Nucatola, describing how PP sells the body parts of aborted fetuses, and admitting she uses partial-birth abortions to supply intact body parts.

23) Medical Director Discusses Pricing Bod Parts "Per Item"
“We Can See How Much We Can Get Out of It,” says Planned Parenthood Affiliate VP

24) Article: "In the Market for Fetal Body Parts, a Baby’s Brain Sells for $3,340"
Republicans on the special House panel investigating the transfer of fetal tissue from aborted babies presented the evidence in a hearing on April 20, 2016.

25) "The committee’s documents, which will be used today in a House hearing on the pricing of fetal tissue, include payments made from a middleman procurement company to an abortion clinic on a monthly basis. Those dollar amounts range from $6,010 to $11,365"
26) "Middleman procurement businesses are companies that obtain tissue and other body parts from aborted babies and provide them to institutions or other organizations for research. Under federal law, the transportation of fetal tissue is based on a nonprofit model."
27) "Over the span of a year, one research institution paid a middleman company $42,535 to obtain 38 fetal brains, 12 fetal hearts, three fetal upper/lower limbs, five fetal livers, and 12 fetal pancreases, according to the select House panel’s documents."
