these people live to hate christianity. when i go back home i see even the most dead dreary people get an electric hate in their eyes when it comes up. i did all manner of weird religion stuff, the only negative reaction i ever got from people there is for not hating christianity
same people who would try to get u fired from ur job because you have negative things to say about other religions stay up late for hours laughing about how stupid the eucharist is and making “zombie jesus” jokes. the immense level of satisfaction this derision brings is palpable
they tie everything back to a hatred of christianity + color any discussion of any religious phenomenon being bad with this lens. i was with my uncle a few weeks ago and something about L ron hubbard came up and he says “really, hes no different than paul and his church”
that was his first reaction. not even cherry picking. it always comes back to that. even before i became christian i realized how much of an eschatological anchor this was for the people around me and got kind of creeped out by it.
used this anecdote before but i did all kinds of spiritual things, read crazy books, tibetan buddhist work, occult stuff, went into the woods with a literal cult for a week of not eating, etc., the people in new york act like im a full on fucking freak for being christian now
this is all kind of cliche but just reporting for people who i think are unaware of how extreme it is in some places. even when i reached a stage of “just not thinking christianity is 100% bad” people at bars, at my jobs, family, everyone around me, was obviously disturbed by it
theres certain family members i have where i havent told them im christian yet, i just dont really see them, i moved like a thousand miles away for a reason, but im 100% sure that when i tell them it will be the last blow severing our already distant and weird relationships
if it wasnt for certain things i cant entirely bail on i would swear an oath to never return to such cursed places. i unironically have nightmares about it sometimes, with lots of weird biblical symbolism like snakes. its kind of weird, tbh
just last night i had a dream that my parents were standing in this hallway holding this snake and i had to walk past them but they were holding the snake in such a way that when i went by them it would obviously bite me. i was trying to explain this to them and they didnt get it
then later in the dream someone i knew from new york put a huge snake into my bed that i was in (irl) with my gf, i woke up at like 5 am so panicked i couldnt go back to sleep. my dreams are usually random but the ones with snakes or venomous creatures are always symbolic
had a dream once that i was in this cabin in a jungle with people i used to do psychedelics with + all these snakes were pouring in through the cracks in the walls. they were sleeping on the floor but i was in an elevated bed with my gf, this elevation let me fight the snakes off
had a dream once where i met this community of really awesome people at a church but to join the church this monk wanted me to take on the job of moving venomous animals around to different tanks so they could teach the kids about them, said the job was chosen for me specifically
dreamt once i was sick in a castle, like i was dying or something, then i got out. then i was in this group of people heading away from the castle. they chose the direction i knew was incorrect, tried to tell them to go the other way, but i went with them and a huge snake bit me
so many dreams like this that stand out from the sheer randomness of my “normal” dreams. just thought some people might find it interesting but also im wondering if anyone else has this. random dreams but then if a snake or venomous creature is involved its obviously symbolic?
yeah, it doesnt bother me too much yet because i feel like im being told something (maybe just by my brain, idk), but the weird thing is that in the beginning it would only happen when i prayed before bed, every time, which just makes it weirder.

heres the best relationship advice i ever got

not sure if i have posted it before

some guys in the 40s - 60s came up with the idea for a modified version of the english language called e prime. the main modification is removing all forms of the word “is”. [...]
so thats “are”, “were”, “be”... you can think of it as any form of that word that declares what reality is. “that movie [was] bad” (was is one), “you ARE a good skier”. the idea behind this was removing the ability to assert your perception as a fact, to make it true verbally.
when you say, “that painting IS good”, you are declaring your subjective perception as a fact. in e prime, you cant say that, you can only describe how the painting affects you. this painting makes me feel good. this painting makes me think of home, my wife, my dog.

at the heart of this new weird debate about if parents have a say in what their kids learn in school is this: most teachers went to high school, decided to become teachers, went to school for teaching, graduated, + started teaching. they have no conception of life outside school.
remember when you were in high school. imagine if since that time you had always been in a classroom. your whole life. your whole life has revolved around classrooms. since you were like, five years old. thats literally the only thing you've ever known your whole life. imagine.
SOME teachers are really cool and not like this. however for a significant percentage of this, this (literally only ever living in relationship to a classroom and school) has vastly warped their perception of life. this is just a fact that is obvious if you're around it and them.

recently one of the new internet analysis memes has been something called dead internet theory, the idea that large parts of the internet are astroturfed + essentially bots + fake, things like that. i think this has taken off not because its literally true, but for another reason
i used to work at a front desk somewhere, and id be sitting there with this guy all the time. we had nothing to talk about. i noticed he was on this site imgur all the time. we were literally just sitting there for hours so, i checked it out, being interested in... the internet.
in case you have never “hung out” there, its like reddit culture, but the format is you press the left and right arrows and just go through images and gifs people have posted, and then people make short comments below. thats the whole site, and its very insular. like reddit.

just found this book. interestingly i am fairly certain this series was folded into other books later, although im not sure. either way this might actually be from 1911 and continues my sub-plot of ellen white books spontaneously emerging into my life
i really like finding things over 100 years old when im... in the field. also that fit into historical instances (ie i believe there was an edit and reprinting of her books around 1911 just before she died). this next one is killer. check this out. ur not ready for this one

last year was so insane. feel like i made this + then could physically feel my brain give out a little bit, like doing a huge satisfying deadlift (not that i would know) and immediately shifted my energy over to the comics front. although recently i can feel the balance restoring
thats gotta be my favorite single image i made last year for sure
