Did you know that being classified as a felon permanently strips you of some of your supposedly inalienable constitutional rights?

Did you know each court hearing you appear at costs $200, and YOU have to pay?

I didn't, until @CarcinLoring told me.

Did you know that prosecutors are legally allowed to intimidate you into signing a plea bargain for a crime you didn't commit by pursuing prison sentences in the decades?

And the ONLY way to fight it is to spend thousands on court fees by going to trial.

Did you know that some prisons give you 15 minutes to talk to your loved ones every few days, and it costs hundreds of dollars a year?

And when I say "15 minutes," I do not mean some guy saying "okay, come on, wrap it up."

I mean "click" at 15 minutes.

You can get stuck in jail for months or even years before you're even convicted of any crime. Bail is something a lot of people can't afford because most Americans can't afford a sudden expense of $400, let alone tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands.
A plea bargain - even for a crime you didn't commit - can look attractive compared to the months or years it can take for your case to reach trial.

Just a few weeks stuck in jail can ruin your life. You'll lose your job, miss rent or mortgage payments, end relationships.
Can you afford $8,000? That's what even the cheapest attorneys will run you per trial.

Better hope he gets you off the hook, too, because you still have to pay him AND the court fees if you get found guilty anyway, AND you have to suffer the harsher sentence too.
This can happen to you. This can happen to anyone.

My friend @RiotTheRenegade has discussed people he knows "going into the system" with the same tone of voice people usually reserve for friends lost to cancer or car accidents.
Anyone can fight for a loved one trapped in the jaws of an unjust, monstrous system.

But @CarcinLoring took that struggle and turned it into a fight for EVERYONE trapped in those jaws. That takes a special kind of altruism.

They need your help.

Oh, do you not live in the United States? Do you think this is just one more uniquely American problem?

The United Kingdom's prisons are so horrific that other countries consider extraditing our criminals back to us a violation of their human rights
