Sir Alan Duncan reveals he had intended to push for an effective vote of confidence in Boris Johnson before he even entered No 10

He applied for emergency debate - which was rejected - on whether House backs 'newly chosen Leader' and his 'wish to form a Govt'
Here's Sir Alan Duncan's motion:

'That this House has considered the merits of the newly chosen Leader of the Conservative Party, and supports his wish to form a Government'
Sir Alan Duncan's plan to push for Commons vote on the next Tory leader before he had taken office would have been explosive

PM required to inform Queen that her successor can command the majority of the House

The Commons vote would have put that in jeopardy
John Bercow rejected bid by Alan Duncan to hold effective vote of confidence in the next PM tomorrow before he had even taken office

Bercow seen as no friend of Brexiteers, but he's stopped an extraordinary parliamentary move that could have blocked Boris Johnson from office
