I think we need to have an honest, uncomfortable conversation about what it would mean to halve the average age of the players in Congressional committee rooms.

The median American is under 40.

Let me put this generously: I am no longer convinced that the elderly deserve enormous overrepresentation in Washington's halls of power.
This is not ageism, for two reasons.

It is simply calling for a reduction in elderly overrepresentation.

And I believe age is an appropriate consideration in electoral democracy, in a way it isn't in, say, job applications.
