I wouldn't even say that's the main problem. Have them. Why not? All #customs simplifications are good. We have I/O processing, warehouses, end use etc. Free ports could be useful for a very limited number of companies that happen to be located in the right place /1
Building them, putting the right processes and controls, hiring staff and ensuring compliance will be a big investment that may or may or may not be worth it in the long run /2
But for me the main problem is that if he's mentioning #Freeports on day 1 the chances are he doesn't really understand what they do. Seems he's been advised it's an opportunity that somehow relates to #Brexit /3
Also just as a reminder - removing the goods from a free zone/ special economic zone requires the same customs processes and checks. Full declaration and documentation /end
