HOW TO COMMAND VALUE - 3 (WHAT ARE THE CONTAINERS OF PERSONAL VALUE)

Now what are the containers of value for you as an employee? For you who are working in an organisation, what are some of the key vehicles of your value? What tells your Boss u are valuable?
1. QUALITY OF OUTPUT: If u give ur boss back a completed task & he realises that every1 else do not perform to the same high standard; but when he gives u, it is as good as finished, that quality begins to speak the language of value. U begin to distinguish yourself from the rest
2. SKILL: Skill including speed of work. If you come to a place and you start doing in three day what others have been taking three week to do, instantly you portray your value. You command value instantly.
3. COST TO THE BUSINESS: Your cost to the business is always a product of your direct cost and revenue generated (or savings made). In other words, how much are they paying you and how much are you generating for them. The lower your net cost to the business,...
...the more valuable you are. Even if they are paying you more but you make them much more money for them, you are still considered valuable. For instance, the highest paid people in the bank are the ones that make the highest money, so the bank still considers them valuable.
How do you fit into the strategy of where the business is going? You have a job, you are doing very well, but you don't like computers. Meanwhile the new strategy of the business is to make everything electronic. Instantly, you have lost a job for yourself, because your...
...position is inconsistent with the current strategy of the company you are working for. It is important for you to understand that fitting into the future strategic direction of the firm is key.
4. RELIABILITY & COMMITMENT: That includes time keeping. How reliable are u? Is your word worth anything? Do u keep to deadlines? These are elements that allow u to command value personally. You will also become a force for good in your firm by influencing other people for good.
5. RELATIONAL AND TEAM DYNAMICS: In other words how do you work well with the other team members. If you are the most skilled person, but you are always fighting with your other colleagues, you will not last. It is important that you look at your impact on the team as a whole.
You may be the number one when it comes to skill and knowledge, but if you are always the one everybody complains about, you won't last. So you need to be able to work as part of a team. It is important because your employer knows that he cannot run that department with you alone
6. CREATIVITY: The more creative you are; the better you will be valued. Creativity allows you to find ingenious solutions to business problems.

So in addition to these containers of Personal Values; what are the signs that your position is not safe at work?
What are the signs that you could be let go at any time in the office as an employee? How do you know if you have lost personal value to your employer.

This will be the subject of our next Thread in Part 4 as we look at the TEN SIGNS YOU ARE LOSING VALUE AT WORK
