1/ Dear @JoeBiden,
This is an open letter to you. We need to talk. You’ve crossed a line. A line that wounds me personally. Like you, I lost a loved one to cancer far too young in their life. My mother died when she was 40 years old. I know Beau wasn’t much older.
2/And like you Joe, I lost more than one loved one too early in my life. My grandfather, who raised me alongside my mom, died just 29 days after she did from complications with pneumonia. Like you, I know heartbreak. I know you think about them every single day, just like I do.
3/Where I am deeply disappointed in you, Joe is that you’ve invoked your son’s name in this way. Why would you do that? Invoking him to discuss a cure for cancer, yes. As a slight against a political opponent? Joe, why?
4/Joe, what you’ve seemed to have forgotten is that running for President is about 'being prepared' to be in service of the 327.2 million who live in the Country. Everyone who lives in this country.
5/What do I mean by everyone?
I mean everyone, Joe:
Documented or undocumented.
The most marginalized.
Without homes.
Who can't vote.
Without a job.
Who are incarcerated.
Living in deep poverty.
Living paycheck to paycheck.
Those who are addicted to substance(s).
6/What are the stats behind real people living in the US right now? Let's start w/ poverty. Joe, as you know methodology for calculating the thresholds for poverty was established in the mid-1960s & hasn't changed since. Insane. Especially since inflation/wages haven't kept up.
7/Who is living in poverty in America? That's a complicated question given methodology hasn't changed from 1960s but estimates are:
➡️1/3 of all children
➡️16.3% women
➡️13% men
➡️21.3 million people live in deep poverty
➡️95 million live close to poverty: paycheck to paycheck.
8/I don't want to forget about our seniors. "Over 25 million Americans aged 60+ are economically insecure".
"Economically insecure" = poor.
9/BTW Joe, while you're pushing your talking points of 'being unprepared' for 'attacks' (e.g. constructive criticism) Trump is driving us all into deeper poverty & food insecurity* by robbing money from programs like SNAP.

*(difficulty in attaining food for all family members)
10/ Let's talk about those without homes. According to the National Center on Family Homelessness "A staggering 2.5 million children are now homeless each year in America. This historic high represents one in every 30 children in the United States." This is a crisis.
11/ Let's talk about gun violence:
1 MILLION WOMEN ALIVE HAVE BEEN SHOT OR SHOT AT BY AN INTIMATE PARTNER. I'm sorry for the "all caps" but my god, that is a horrific stat. Look at all of these stats below, they're all horrifying. From @Everytown everytownresearch.org/gun-violence-a…
@Everytown 12/ Let's talk about incarceration. American incarcerated more people then any nation in the world.
➡️46,000 Children are locked up.
➡️462,000 are not yet convicted of a crime (can't afford pre-trail bail)
13/ America has "the highest incarceration rate for women in the world." According to @PrisonPolicy "Women’s incarceration has grown at twice the pace of men’s incarceration in recent decades, and has disproportionately been located in local jails." Again, another crisis.
@PrisonPolicy 14/Let's talk about water, Joe. Flint, Michigan still has "iffy" water, awful, but you know what? It's worse: "1.6 million Americans still live without rudimentary plumbing due to a lack of infrastructure or shutoffs resulting from the inability to pay." I'm sorry, what? 🤦🏽‍♀️
@PrisonPolicy 15/Let's talk about substance abuse issues, Joe. Let's talk about how for decades (hello, crime bill!) America has locked up people (mostly brown) for addiction issues. Addiction is a health issue, not a criminal issue. However, there are criminals: The pharmaceutical companies!
16/ Let's talk about legalizing marijuana, Joe. The US needs to release those incarcerated for marijuana possession and expunge their records. Like alcohol, marijuana prohibition hasn't worked, and it's expensive. It's safer than alcohol.
You know what, Joe? Just read @CoryBooker's bill #MarijuanaJusticeAct that @SenGillibrand and @ewarren co-sponsored: marijuanamoment.net/presidential-c…
@CoryBooker @SenGillibrand @ewarren 18/Let's talk about Voter Suppression and Voter Disenfranchisement, Joe, which could keep any Democratic Presidential candidate (or Senate, House, State and Local candidate) from being elected.
@CoryBooker @SenGillibrand @ewarren 19/ According to @CAP
Here are some of the 2018 mid-term Election Day problems that potentially kept MILLIONS of eligible Americans from voting:

Voter registration problems
Voter purges
Strict voter ID and ballot requirements
Voter confusion
Accessible polling stations
@CoryBooker @SenGillibrand @ewarren @cap 20/ Other 2018 mid-term Election Day problems that potentially kept MILLIONS of eligible Americans from voting include:

Voter intimidation and harassment
Poll closures & long lines
Malfunctioning voting equipment
Disenfranchisement of justice-involved individuals Gerrymandering
@CoryBooker @SenGillibrand @ewarren @cap 20/For the #2020Election we have to worry about:

✔️Voter Suppression
✔️Voter Disenfranchisement
✔️Russian Interference
✔️A lack of investment in organizations that #GOTV
✔️Disinformation from Trolls, Bots, Trump and the GOP

Real obstacles to achieving a fair democracy, Joe.
@CoryBooker @SenGillibrand @ewarren @cap 21/ Let's talk about hate crimes, Joe.
"Hate crimes against LGBTQ people have been on a slight rise over the past three years." According to FBI data. "Most of the 7,175 cases in 2017 involved race-based bias." Hate crimes have been rise Trump in office. Another crisis.
22/ @JoeBiden, we both know this country has real problems. We know we’re in crisis. We need a leader that’s prepared, who can take constructive criticism, who doesn’t have a fragile ego, that understands systemic oppressions, who sees all of us. I don’t know if that’s you, Joe.
23/ You’re a white man in America, @JoeBiden. You were automatically seen as “a legitimate” candidate. @KamalaHarris is a black woman in America, she knows she has to be prepared, all of the time, because black + woman = automatically underestimated if not dismissed in America.
24/ I want a POTUS that’s prepared. I definitely want a candidate that knows it’s okay to own up to mistakes, that wants to to draft anti-racist Policy, that won’t stand for a wage gap, that want free/affordable college/healthcare. That understand the law and wants equality.
25/ I want to POTUS that admits that America “started” with the enslavement of Africans, the genocide of Natives. That we turned away Jewish people escaping the Holocaust, that we held Japanese people in internment camps, and that we’re allowing people to die at our Border now.
26/ I want a POTUS to admit that in order to move forward we have to admit we had (have) policies that allowed segregation, Jim Crow, lynching, police brutality and murder. That our system allows rich rapists to serve no jail time while Trayvon and Tamir’s murders roam free.
27/ Lastly, @JoeBiden I think you can be of service to this Country but I don’t think it’s as POTUS. I think it’s with Moonshot, because we do need a cure for cancer. You & I would give anything to have Teresa and Beau back. We can’t but we can help others cancer.gov/research/key-i…
