Don't lose sight of this. After Uvalde, Texas cops at every level, including and especially DPS, are aware their state is mass shooter central and now mostly see the aftermath as a PR problem. A news cycle to be managed.
Abbott is the only governor in the country to have been on the job for THREE separate mass shootings to leave over 20 people dead and the only governor with TWO mass school shootings to leave 10+ dead. His state sold guns used by the Vegas shooter & floods Mexico with firearms.
Of the nine shootings to kill 20 or more people since 1991, four were in Texas. Of those, three on Abbott's watch. All three on Abbott's watch perpetrated with semiautomatic, large capacity rifles like the AR-15. All acquired through legal sales at Texas gun shops.
