@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Ultimately whether someone enjoys a piece of media is personal and subjective. But especially with franchises there are reasonable expectations of tone, characterisation, quality of story telling and respect for established world canon. (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan When it comes to trek I have watched all of TOS TNG DS9 VOY Enterprise + all movies. So I must have some notion of what feels like Trek + what does not, that while personal to me will also relate to other peoples common perceptions to a degree. (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Since Bad Robot has come to franchise: loved 2009 film: felt bold new take on Trek that took risks to be different + make new continuity free from past. Smart. Influence of Leonard Nimoy on production can be felt (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Into Darkness looked fantastic. But it left a sour note re charactersations and poor rip off Wrath of Khan. Felt big backward step. Beyond was better, but way over produced. 3rd Trek film destroy enterprise. Too obvious warm over Star Trek III (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Main villain not well work out, world building sloppy asking audience to forgive a lot of nonsensical aspects. B movie plot on A Movie money. Commercial viability compromised pushing style over substance
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Then I watched S1 STD, whole season. I liked some parts, but not others, and the discipline of Star Fleet totally absent. It was ego and argument of the week. Actually worked best in mirror universe eps. But season end flat. Just not credible. (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Not because "too fantastic": but because people didn't act like people. Characters acting just to help plot, not character driving plot, and just bad resolution (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan I havent watched any of S2 of STD. S1 left me feeling this wasn't Star Trek in a way that interested me: why should I? Orville, Expanse and others, new shows, more exciting, and esp no SJW virtue signalling. Frankly, compared to S1, BETTER products (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan And Nothing I have heard about S2 STD makes me feel I missed everything. I don't need bad Trek when we have the good Trek of the past + good new shows (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan I am not a closed minded person: but last ST product did not do it for me. Now we have Picard. I want it to be good. Ofc I do. But I know community wary we are having past nostalgia dangled in front of us to be sold something that will end up unsatisfing + feel uneccesary (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan I really hope that is not the case and we will have something that feels worthwhile expanding the timeline 20 yrs past Voyager. Feels a long time since Trek last moved FORWARDS (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan BUT: Patricks politicised comments about why doing the show bad start. We want to be listened to and respected as fans, not told we are bad for not feeling satisfied with product produced. Dignity and respect go a long way (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan What many SciFi fanbases have found is nasty polarised toxicity just for offering what would once have been welcomed feedback. Ghostbusters, Star Wars, Terminator, GOT, Doctor Who, MCU, etc, this offputting attitude from studios has penetrated everywhere (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan So here is hoping Picard raises the bar, and whether fans like it or not, treats them with dignity and respect and shows it is more than getting old faces in fast for the sake of cash. I would love Picard to be a unifying not divisive experience (cont)
@BrentSpiner @MikesWife17 @Neilfan12 @HealhGlyn @JeriLRyan Becuase if its NOT, the lesson will be failure, no $$$, and studios being taught people will not be milked and taken for granted while sneered at and rubbished, and an industry of long established faves will be replaced by new dynamic creative properties that earn their fanbases
