1. You might know that the United States is the only developed country that does not have guaranteed paid maternity leave

But did you know that the average length of paid leave that new moms get in other developed countries is now 52 WEEKS!

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
2. The Trump campaign is touting its support for paid leave as a way to win back female voters.

But Ivanka and her dad endorsed an actual proposal yesterday and (surprise!) the entire thing is a scam

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
3. The proposal Ivanka endorsed yesterday allows new parents to take a $5,000 LOAN and then pay it back through increased taxes over the next 10 years.

This isn't paid leave.

This is paying for your own leave.

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
4. Why is this plan so terrible?

Republicans insist any paid leave plan be REVENUE NEUTRAL

So you are left with rearranging the deck chairs

(Keep in mind these same Republicans just voted for $1 TRILLION in corporate tax cuts that had no offsets)

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
5. The 5K loan endorsed by Ivanka would finance about 7 wks of leave for someone making a 35K salary

The average paid leave offered by developed countries was 17 weeks IN 1970

This is a worse plan than what other developed countries offered 50 YEARS AGO

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
6. BTW, if you are interested in ACTUAL ISSUES like paid leave and not just horse race politics about polls (that don't mean anything at this point anyway) you might want to check out my newsletter, Popular Information

You can subscribe (free!) at popular.info
7. There was a detailed poll taken last year about paid leave. 80% of Americans support it.

Most voters want employers to at least share the cost of paid leave

The Ivanka plan, where employees pay for the entire cost, is supported by ONLY 2% of voters

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
8. The idea, I think, is just to say that Trump supports paid leave and hope no one pays attention to the details.

But it's also astounding how modest even PROGRESSIVE paid leave proposals are in the United States

popular.info/p/paying-for-y…
9. The FAMILY Act would provide 12 weeks of leave for new parents. It would be paid for by a 0.2% payroll tax on employers and employees.

So it's much better than the Ivanka plan but still worse than other developed countries had it 50 years ago

1. UPDATE: Billionaire Rob Citrone, whose hedge fund bet heavily on Argentina, pressed Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, his longtime friend and former colleague, to rescue the country, according to Argentine media.

Shortly thereafter, Bessent announced a $20 billion taxpayer-funded bailout.
2. CE Noticias Financieras, a wire service in Latin America, reported that after the bailout faced resistance w/lower-level Trump officials, “Citrone managed to connect with Bessent to get him to intervene directly.”

3. Ariel Maciel, Political Economy Editor at Perfil, a large Argentine media outlet, said on an Argentine broadcast, “Citrone is really the one who intervenes. He basically tells Bessent, ‘Hey, we need to help in Argentina,.”

1. Yesterday Jared Kushner partnered with the Saudis on the $55 billion purchase of Electronic Arts AND attended the White House meeting between Bibi and Trump as a foreign policy advisor

It's an insane conflict of interest
2. Why did the Saudis bring in Kushner to the EA deal? Most of the money he has to invest comes from the Saudis!

ANSWER: Since the deal will result in foreign ownership of EA, it needs Trump admin approval. Kushner locks it in

popular.info/p/jared-kushne…
3. Kushner's private equity firm is functioning as a way for Kushner to monetize his influence with the Trump administration. You have someone in the Oval Office discussing Middle East policies who is getting tens of millions in fees annually from the Saudis.

1. The $20 billion taxpayer-funded rescue package for Argentina, announced last week by the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, delivers an enormous windfall to hedge fund billionaire Rob Citrone.

Citrone has a longstanding personal and professional relationship with Bessent.
2. Citrone's relationship with Bessent has not been previously reported in the American media.

But Bessent and Citrone worked together for George Soros. By Citrone's own account, he helped make Bessent very wealthy.

3. Since Javier Milei, a right-wing populist, became president of Argentina in December 2023, Citrone has invested heavily in Argentina. Citrone has bought Argentine debt and purchased equity in numerous Argentine companies that are closely tied to the performance of the overall economy.Image

1. Sinclair, which owns dozens of ABC affiliates, played a key role in forcing Jimmy Kimmel off the air.

Sinclair's "news desk" then produced a special on Charlie Kirk, which was supposed to air during Kimmel's time slot

It presents Kirk as a prophet
2 "Charlie Kirk was known first and foremost for his faith in his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," news anchor Jan Jeffcoat says. "And he reminded Americans that life's most important questions aren't about wealth or success, but about your faith and your relationship with God."

popular.info/p/sinclair-spe…
3. Jeffcoat describes Kirk as "an American patriot fearless in his faith" and claims that his death, which occurred less than two weeks ago, has "fueled a revival of faith across America." She praises "Charlie's passion to awaken the country with the gospel through conviction and courage."

1. In the wake of the murder of Charlie Kirk, his admirers are venerating him as a principled champion of free speech.

Ironically, some of the same people are participating in an organized campaign demanding that anyone with a different view of Kirk's political legacy be fired.
2. This effort has been extremely successful. Dozens of people have been fired for expressing opinions about Kirk that others deem unacceptable.

3. On September 10, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (R-WI) wrote on X that Kirk "was murdered for advocating for free speech, American values, and freedom." Since then, most of Van Orden's feed has been advocating for the firing or sanctioning of people who do not share Van Orden's views on Kirk.Image

1. Trump and his allies have concocted a series of lies about the horrific murder of a 23-year-old woman in Charlotte in a transparent effort to secure an advantage in a critical North Carolina race that could swing control of the U.S. Senate.

It's nasty stuff.

Follow this thread for details.
2. On August 22, Iryna Zarutska was fatally stabbed while riding the train in Charlotte.

Decarlos Brown Jr., a 34-year-old with a history of mental illness, has been charged with first-degree murder.

popular.info/p/a-tragic-mur…
3. In the wake of Zarutska's death, Trump and many other prominent Republicans have blamed former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D).

"The blood of this innocent woman... is on the hands of... Former Disgraced Governor and 'Wannabe Senator' Roy Cooper," Trump wrote.
