Atlanta is literally IN Georgia. There isn’t an authentic Georgia with Atlanta as the imposter and “less Georgia.” What makes Marietta more Georgia than Atlanta? This attitude is pervasive. I see it in Alabama too as Montgomery and The Black Belt is not considered “real Alabama.”
2) Or New Orleans is not considered relevant to the rest of Louisiana by those north of I-10 or vice versa, actually. The prejudice goes both ways when the cities disregard the rural areas and small towns. Really, we are all this together, urban, suburban, and rural areas alike.
3) Yes there are different cultures, customs, regions. The South has around 30+ of them by my count and experience. But, all of this variance is still “The South.” From Virginia Tidewater to SC Low Country to Acadiana, there are huge culture differences, but it’s all “The South.”
