Those accusing @MatthewJHall of promoting CRT/I don’t know what it is. If his answer for human sin, division, oppression, injustice, brokenness, forgiveness, and reconciliation is the Cross of Christ, he cannot be a proponent of CRT/I. @SBTS and @albertmohler should stand firm.
2) There are many ways to look at a problem. Historical study apart from awareness of CRT/I will lead you to strong conclusions about power dynamics, grasping wealth, and protecting status that formed racial divisions and articulated racism. The solution, though, is the Cross.
3) And the Cross applied has radical social implications that produces humility, silence, listening, ongoing repentance, and an awareness of the needs and situation of others in an cont. situation created by past injustices that became systemic and enculturated. See Phil2:1-11.
4) Beware those who jump from issue to issue, judge scholars with shallow understanding, submit to the use of current vernacular to assess rightness/fitness, and haven’t done a deep dive into an issue but still act like experts. We need to do better and work to hold up truth.
5) I mean, the history tells the story. Study Bacon’s Rebellion and the resulting rise of Virginia Slave Codes and race law and how that shaped culture giving rise to “whiteness.” Or, response to slave rebellions on The German Coast or w/ Denmark Vessey or Nat Turner. You can...
6) ...talk about how those things created mass fear and how land grabs and pursuit of wealth moved out indigenous peoples and trafficked I. slaves and how white culture and religion formed around those mvmnts and were affected by it and you’re dealing w/ HISTORY not CRT/I. But...
7) ...we let people who are ignorant of basic history and who have become culturally captive in their critique throw out false accusations against faithful brothers. And, those who should stand with scholars like @MatthewJHall run away or stay quiet, hoping they aren’t targeted.
8) We need an infusion of courage in SBC leadership and also basic awareness of what is going on, what happened in the past, how it might still affect us, and the power of the Cross to make all things new through Christ. All of that together is needed.
9) I might not explain all this the same way @MatthewJHall does and probably have a higher view of the redeeming power of the Cross re: individual racism, but his larger point about way history/systems affect us is right and isn’t CRT/I or Marxism.
10) I’ve spent decades studying this stuff. Forget the sociology and stop learning about this from secondary sources like Jordan Peterson. Look at the history. It is real. This all seems like a massive political move. And I agree w/ my friend @Preecha007.
