I grew up in a largely white, conservative, pro-gun community.

I’m so tired of hearing them claim they THEY would be the Good Guy With A Gun, and that they could stop a mass shooting.
I’m tired of it because these same people know how quickly semi-automatic weapons work.

I’m tired of it because in their scenario, they’re always behind the gunfire, never in it.
I’m not impressed that police responded in one minute in Ohio. I’m thankful, yes, but why would we celebrate it when in that time, nine people were killed?

Nine. In 60 seconds.

How fast do these Good Guys With Guns think they are?
I’m tired of hearing the community I grew up in screech about their rights to any gun because they have to be able to defend themselves from a tyrannical govt.

Newsflash Karen: we’ve already got one of those.
Also newsflash: you and your 7 guns don’t stand a chance against an actual army. Like, actually zero chance. So stop pretending that’s the reason.

Also stop pretending that there are Good Guys With Guns. They’re just people with guns.
I’m tired of white, conservative, pro-gun America pretending that mass shootings wouldn’t happen if everyone knew how to use, and had, a gun.

Nearly half of voting Texans own guns. 80% own more than one.

Stop pretending that more guns protect people from guns.
Your guns and your gun skills don’t matter if someone kills you with theirs first.

In America, that’s very likely.

But white, conservative, pro-gun America doesn’t think that because most mass shooters are white supremacists.
I’m tired of white, conservative, pro-gun America doing so many mental gymnastics to justify why avoiding gun reform is okay even after children are murdered. After churches are targeted. After fellow citizens are gunned down in public spaces just like theirs.
For a country who wanted to “drain the swamp” we are really good at turning our heads at politicians who receive money from private businesses and interests

like the NRA

But sure, the thoughts and prayers and genuine, and effective.
I’m tired of the community I grew up in saying that arming teachers is the answer when our mutual friends are tiny teachers who love Pinterest and toddlers. Those are great things to love, but these affinities don’t involve military-style training to end human life.
I’m tired of America being desensitized to mass shootings until it kills someone they know.

I’m angry at Americans for thinking it’s sad, and moving on. I’m angry that we’re surprised that we’ve had two mass shootings in 24 hours.

Ofc we have. This is America.
My heart goes out to the families who will now suffer for the rest of their lives because their person was murdered this morning, yesterday, last week, tomorrow.

I’m tired of white, conservative, pro-gun America.
This thread is based on anguish rather than a goal, and I’ve got to check out for a bit before I can be proactive. Even if my family didn’t live in El Paso, and I didn’t work in Dayton, today would be hard.

Take the time you need, but do something. #EnoughIsEnough
