An anniversary #Medthread!
One year ago today, I gave my OHSU #GrandRounds about #medtwitter for academic clinicians and immediately posted its accompanying #tweetorial.
My goodness, what a year!!
Some reflections and musings 1/x
an incredible year indeed, professionally AND personally--and definitely in no small part thanks to #medtwitter and the opportunity to prepare and give this talk about #SoMe
pardon my if the argument is getting a little circular...the coffee is still kicking in... 2/x
I truly truly had no idea. In probably a poor exam of my "beginning of the academic year commitment to say 'no' more often", I told my boss that I could fill the August 7th #GrandRounds slot on only a few weeks notice.

"Don't you have a talk about twitter prepared?"... 3/x
I had done a first talk for @OregonACP in 2015 & more recently an #AIMW18 workshop w @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer so the answer was "yes, technically..."
but I quickly realized this talk needed to be more than a recycling or upcycling of those talks 4/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes had a very strong institutional culture supporting #medtwitter #SoMe and incredible mentors-in-tweeting (maybe you've heard of @choo_ek...), but I knew the "sell" to faculty was going to be tougher, ESPECIALLY when applied with academic lenses 5/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek so the existing talks were put through major overhauls, and I learned so much in the process!
it was the catalyst and the catapult to launch my 3+ years of interest about #medtwitter into even more scholarly territory 6/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek as I was preparing the talk, my friend & colleague @DRsonosRD said "oh, you HAVE to listen to @thecurbsiders episode 103 with @Gurpreet2015 that just came out!" 7/x

@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek @DRsonosRD @thecurbsiders @Gurpreet2015 the ability to apply adult learning theory to #medtwitter's effectiveness and successes was the eye opener that has been one of the main undercurrents for my mission-based tweeting since then 9/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek @DRsonosRD @thecurbsiders @Gurpreet2015 so, anyhoodle...I promised more reflections and lessons learned. This is not a recitation of my CV or a #humblebrag (but you should TOTALLY feel comfortable doing that on #medtwitter) 10/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek @DRsonosRD @thecurbsiders @Gurpreet2015 This thread is about
❇️the power of #medtwitter #scitwitter
❇️the role and value of getting scholarly about twitter

Honestly, it’s an attempt to get meta (@Etsshow do you know what that means yet???)

It’s about the power of tempo & serendipitously seizing an opportunities 11/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek @DRsonosRD @thecurbsiders @Gurpreet2015 @ETSshow The last year thank to #medtwitter?
❇️opened doors
❇️avenues to use my voice esp for advocacy for others
❇️insights into self-care and self-advocacy
❇️role-modeling & identity formation (bidirectional) 12/x
@OregonACP @RJmdphilly @gretchendiemer @OHSUSOM @OHSUNews @OHSUIMRes @choo_ek @DRsonosRD @thecurbsiders @Gurpreet2015 @ETSshow I’ve become not just passing acquaintances with but FRIENDS w people I didn’t know existed a year ago

I’m on speed dial w so many incredible people—peers, more senior faculty (many now mentors/sponsors) AND students/residents (who I get to mentor) 13/x

My word has grown so much. Don’t look at the delta of followers (though that starting Number is pretty fun), look at the delta of the number of people I’m now following 14/x
so THANK YOU to you all for the amazing journey, learning, fun, friendship, camaraderie, and incredible sense of community and ability to work as a physician with renewed purpose 15/x
oh, and for all those here who tweet "I've been ask to give a local/institution talk about #SoMe #medtwitter, any resources?"...
1. the crowdsourcing really does work
2. good luck with your talk, let us know how it goes (w/wo a #tweetorial)
3. check back in a year!! 16/FIN
Post-post script thanks to Matilda “Matty” the labradoodle (aka my podcast listening pal) who patiently waited for her morning walk while I wrote the thread. 5:30-6:30 (when the rest of the house is asleep) can be my peak creative juices writing time :)
