This is an important conversation that nobody seems to be having. @MohamedNasheed’s sovereign nation fund needs to be back on the agenda, I think. If the unthinkable happens, which the scientists studying climate change think it will, then Maldivians are in a lot of trouble.
How does the entire population of a country who have been made into climate refugees get back to any sort of normal life after the events? Most ppl's income sources are deeply tied to the geography of Maldives - tourism/resorts and landlords/real estate. All of it will be gone.
A lot of people lack the necessary skills, education to thrive in a modern world in the event of forced migration or relocation in the worst case scenario. In such an event, families would get broken up due to circumstances out of control of the people being impacted.
We see refugee camps in the middle east and other war torn areas of the world in media. At first it's going to be exactly like that for the lot of us. Rich people in our societies would have already abandoned ship and would already have relocated or migrated to the developed...
...world. Average people and the poor will be the hardest hit. Prayer and religiosity will be useless to make any difference in the lives of people impacted. Islam is a mythological fantasy narrative from the Arabian deserts some 1400 years ago. It's not real and there is no 8👁.
Everyone will be left on their own to survive and relying on how the global community responds for survival.

Dhivehin needs to start thinking about how to mitigate this reality rather than try and engineer our way out of the impending disaster. Because we can't do that.
We lack the money to engineer our way out of this problem. And even if we did have the money, we should question if it's the right way to spend the money. The planet earth we live of cares not for the humans that inhabits the planet. Human activity is changing the planet.
And any engineering solution we can come up with will be temporary and we would continue to come up with solutions and spend more money and it will be a vicious cycle where ultimately we would be the losers. It would be like putting bandaid on incurable cancer.
Our money will be better spent in securing land in another part of the world, engage with global community to define how an entire nation will shift location along with their sovereignty. And then start planning how a resettlement will be excited.
And we should also start thinking about how peoples wealth and asset could be rescued and how that wealth transfer can also happen. This dialogue should happen probably at the UN Security Council level. If no one is willing to start thinking about this stuff now...
...we are condemning our people into inevitable demise or extreme hardship as #ClimateRefugees and the entire country and the people becomes one of the first nations to be impacted by extreme #ClimateChange. We r collectively looking straight into the eye of a #ClimateEmergency.
The Maldives response as #ClimateAction must include foremost a #SovereignNationFund.

I am not being an alarmist, I am just being a realist. I like to consider the worst outcome possible in my thought processes & so I worry about this as well.
