Today, I marched w/ hundreds to @Thrivent.

Why?

Movement to kidnap children, separate families, cage human beings and dehumanize our immigrant neighbors isn’t just about a racist president.

It’s about financial institutions making millions off investments in these practices
Two of the largest companies running private detention centers inprisoning families on border are CoreCivic & GEO Group.

They are profiting from detentions, separations, deaths & camps.

@Thrivent, according to recent FEC filings have almost 4 million invest in those companies
While hatred and bigotry readied the soil for the inhumane treatment at these concentration camps the water and sunlight providing nourishment for these camps to flourish is the cowardess and profit first mentality of multimillion dollar companies like @Thrivent
As @usbank, @WellsFargo, @jpmorgan and @BankofAmerica are bowing to pressure from immigrants groups, finding their conscience and divesting from these companies, @Thrivent continues to rake in profits while kids are dying.
@Thrivent prides itself on being “the most ethical company” 8 years straight.

You can’t be an ethical company and be deeply invested in and profiting the horrid conditions at our Southern Border.
The dead are not statistics or nameless/faceless ghosts relegated to the history books.

Here are 6 of the victims of our unjust, inhumane and immoral treatment of immigrants.
Mariee Juárez, age 1. Died after being discharged from border custody, while seeking asylum w/ her mother.

A healthy baby before being taken, her condition rapidly deteriorated and repeated concerns of her mother were ignored.

She died in the hospital of realities failure.
Carlos Gregorio Hernández Vásquez, age 16. Survived the 1,000 mile journey from Guatemala alone.

The futbol fan left home seeking work to support his family.

On May 20th 2019, after just over a week in custody he was found dead in the camp he was held at.
Darlyn Cristabel Cordova-Valle, age 10. Came from El Salvador to reunite with her mother.

Instead she spent a year between hospitals and ICE Custody; after negligent medical care left her in a coma, she died of a fever and respiratory distress.
Felipe Gómez Alonzo, age 8. Felipe & his father left their impoverished farming village, in debt & desperate.

On their journey they were captured by Border Patrol. Several days later, after reporting a shocking 103 fever, and a minimal 90 minute hospitalization. He died.
Juan de León Gutièrrez, age 16. Due to successive years of drought cause by the climate collapse he was forced to leave the family farm.

After just days in custody he died from a brain infection caused by head trauma or a untreated sinus infection.
Jakelin Caal Maquín, age 7. Left the indigenous community of Raxruha with her father Nery, to seek asylum in the US.

She died of sepsis and multiple organ failure after being taken by Border Patrol.
Wilmer Josué Ramírez Vásquez, age 2. He was taken into custody with his mother. He died a month later from multiple instestibal and respatory infectious diseases.

His family believes earlier medical intervention could have saved his life.
Those 7 precious children died. To me that is a travesty to @Thrivent it’s profits.

Today, people stood up and said it’s unacceptable and we are watching.
We need to continue our campaigns against politicians who use rhetoric that dehumanizes immigrants.

We need to keep shutting down access to detention centers and immigration courts.

But, we must also ramp up the pressure on financial benefactors and investors in this system
Don’t look away.

Get uncomfortable, put your body on the line, use your voice, fight back!
