Thread: The Power and the Pain of Boycotts and Protests

I am confounded as to how in the hell is trump still president. No Fortune 500 company would tolerate his behavior from their CEO.
The reason is not morality, it’s the PURSE STRINGS.
Any corporation with share holders would ask for their CEO’s letter of resignation or simply fire a CEO who was so shrouded in controversies both social and legal. EVEN if the company was performing.
They would not risk the chance of the CEOs antics affecting sales.
Behold Uber. At the height of their growth, their CEO and founder clowned in the back seat of an Uber, it went viral, and people started deleting Uber from their phones.
Eventually the shareholders said #Enough, asked for his resignation and he is gone*
When trump clowns, we get angry and we tweet and we’ll even hit the streets with some signs, yet he is still sitting in the WH.

We must find the equivalent of deleting the Uber app.
We must find a way to financially hurt the special interests groups that are propping up the entire GOP.
This is the ONLY way that they will ever abandon trump and ask for his letter of resignation.
Let’s stop thinking we can shame the GOP into action. Change will not come because they woke up one day and finally felt moral conviction.

I believe we could end this nightmare of a presidency before 2020, but it will take some action, sacrifice and discomfort.
This week we saw people, en masse, canceling their memberships to @SoulCycle and @Equinox when it was revealed that one of the owners was holding a fundraiser for trump.
We need MORE of that.
But fancy gyms are luxuries.
Eventually we will need to boycott things that we actually need. Eventually we may need to STAY in the streets longer than a couple of hours holding our placards.

We will not be able to hit them in the purse hard enough without feeling some pain ourselves. Are we ready?
I am reminded of the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
People sacrificed GREATLY.
The boycott lasted 381 days!
It was NOT easy!
But they collectively said #ENOUGH!
Look at the government shutdown this year.
It did not end because of contrition over the pain it was causing government employees.
It ended when air travel was deemed unsafe due to all the absentee TSA workers and airports shutdown.
COMMERCE was going to take a big hit.
I am a practitioner of Muay Thai (Kickboxing). A well placed kick will disable your opponent but you need to be committed to enduring the pain you will feel in delivering that blow.

Are #WeThePeople committed to endure the pain of sacrifice?
I am extremely inspired by the recent successful protest in Puerto Rico and the ongoing protest in Hong Kong.
Are we Americans willing to stay in the streets for weeks, when tweeting and liking is so much easier?
It may take many boycotts and actions (protests, work walk-outs and strikes) to force commerce to say #EnoughIsEnough.

If our elected leaders won’t, then #WeThePeople must end this presidency .
We can make #TrumpResign a reality.

This is our unique power.
